Recent environmental regulations limit the sulfur content in fuels to few p.p.m. Hydrodesulfurization is the process of choice of the industry, but benzo- dibenzo- and substituted dibenzo- thiophenes  are recalcitrant substrates in that reducing procedure. QID new process is based on  a combination of technologies which exploits a three-phase system (benzine-water-hydrophobic Ionic Liquid)  to combine the efficiency of:

  • Sulfur-compounds extraction from apolar matrices using Ionic Liquids;
  • metal catalysed Sulfur-compounds oxidation using aqueous solutions of Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) in mild conditions.
Massimo Centazzo, COO of QID says "The new technology greatly reduces the running costs of the process by minimizing the use of hydrogen. We will further develop the process with partners from the Oil&Gas industry.
